Dry white wine – what exactly does this mean?

A dry white wine is completely or almost completely fermented and contains little to no sugar. There are legal regulations regarding sugar content: only nine grams of sugar are permitted per liter of dry white wine, with most wines containing only two to four grams. If the white wine originates from France, Italy, or Spain, the residual sugar content must not exceed two grams per liter to be declared dry. The grapes in the vineyards produce sugar, which is converted into alcohol during fermentation. The longer the process lasts, the less sugar remains. The grapes develop into what wine connoisseurs love so much: ultimately, a wonderfully refined and velvety wine is created. However, the taste of white wines depends not only on the sugar content but also on other factors such as:

  • Tannin content
  • Alcohol content
  • Glycerol content
  • Amount of acidity

Dry white wine – what foods does it pair well with?
